Fanciful Fiber and Thread
An Exhibition of the Fabric Art of Judith Reilly at the Brandon Artists' Guild

August 30, 2004

BRANDON, VT - Fanciful Fiber and Thread presents Judith Reilly's distinctive perception of the world, captured in fabric. Judith's imaginative "fabric paintings" use fiber as her medium: dyeing it, painting it, cutting it, tearing it, stamping it, fusing it and embellishing it. The final step, the quilting of the surface through "thread painting", brings a layered dimensional depth to the artwork.

Raised on a farm, the world beyond her door was Judith's first art teacher. The colors, textures and flow of nature have always spoken to her. Her work is representational without being literal, and frequently whimsical.

Judith Reilly is an award-winning fiber artist whose work has been exhibited and ribboned in numerous national and international exhibitions as well as in galleries, museums, government offices, and numerous special events. Images of Judith's art quilts have appeared in numerous books and magazines, as well as on calendars and note cards.

Judith's artworks are all original designs created from 100% cotton fabric, often hand-dyed by the artist. Judith creates both framed and unframed pieces; Giclee prints of selected works are also displayed. Celebrating her recent relocation to Brandon, several of the works Judith is exhibiting exemplify the natural beauty and spirit of Vermont.
