©1995 50" x 62"
After a trip to Spain in 1995, the inspirations so overwhelmed me that I felt I must create a piece immediately. I had never painted a quilt like this before, but "the voice" told me to do it - therefore I did. Painting was the fastest method to get the ideas on cloth and proved to be very effective. This was definitely a learn-by-doing experience. By gathering all the photographs, sketches, brochures, postcards, etc. collected on the trip, I stylized them to create a harmonious piece that is also geographically correct in a stylized sort of way. The catawampus houses, called White Villages, were so delightful to design that I carried them through to a series of pieces entitled "By the Sea".
Hand painted with acrylic, hand quilted.
